Preview in Seoul (PIS) 2019, a Korean textile&fashion trade show hosted by the Korea Federation of Textile Industries (KOFOTI) (Chairman Seong Gi-hak), will be held at Coex Halls A and B1 by subway Samsung Station from August 28 (Wed.) to 30 (Fri.). It will be attended by 424 companies (215 Korean and 209 foreign). PIS, which began in 2000, is an international textile trade show that expanded the exports and vitalized domestic transactions for the Korean textile fashion companies. In its 20th year, the event will host the biggest number of companies with a diverse array of programs.

This year’s PIS adopted the latest global trend, setting the theme of “Good-Circle,” which is presented as the direction for the textile fashion industry amidst the worsening global environment due to the mass production and consumption. In order to make our planet a sustainable place of life for the humanity, the global textile fashion industry is adopting 100% biodegradable raw materials, natural materials, and zero-pollution methods utilizing eco-friendly biotechnologies. Such sustainable materials and products will be showcased during the PIS as well.

Hyosung TNC, G-Legacy, Samsung C&T, Duckwoo Corporation, Kayjune Company, One Chang Material, and Young Textile will exhibit products made with various environmentally friendly materials such as organic cotton, Tencel/Modal, and recycled polyester and nylon. Shinhan Industrial, Pangrim, and the Korea Textile Material Research Institute (KOTERI) will display environmentally friendly dyeing and processing technologies. Furthermore, in an attempt to enhance sourcing convenience for the buyers, PIS will suggest its Good-Circle Itinerary by indicating sustainable companies and those with environmental certifications such as Bluesign, GRS, and GOTS on the signboards, promotional materials, and the web directory.

Advance registration for the visitors doubled compared to the last year’s event, displaying an immense interest from the industry even before the event kicks off. Burberry, Macy’s, and Li & Fung have completed their pre-registration for global sourcing efforts. In addition, large Korean fashion companies including Samsung C&T, LF, Youngone Corporation, global vendors such as Sae-A Trading, Hansae, and Hansol Textile, and sports brands such as K2 Korea, Black Yak, and Puma have completed their registration to access excellent functional materials made in Korea. Other than these companies, non-textile/fashion companies such as Hyundai Motor Company, LG Electronics, Samsung SDS, LG Household & Health Care, Lotte Advanced Materials, Hyundai Livart, and Golfzone will visit the event to find ideas in convergence and fusion with the textile and fashion industry.

Furthermore, the organizers of PIS extended invitation to big buyers from the U.S., Europe, and Asia such as Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Fendi, and Perry Ellis, and planned an advance biz-matching system for business consultation. During the event, separate spaces will be provided for companies to engage in effective export consultation sessions.

Since this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the PIS, there will be more meaningful programs. Participation space and seating areas will be prepared to commemorate the history of PIS. To elevate the celebration of the 20th anniversary, PIS Cooperation Award will be given to companies that participated continuously, such as Ilsong Tex, Spinners and Weavers Association of Korea, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Young Textile, Duckwoo Corporation, Korea Institute of Convergence Textile, and Keimyung University.

Furthermore, the show will feature a special exhibition of textile fashion industry collaborating with the cutting-edge industry. It will demonstrate collaborative robots such as six-axis sewing process robot (Robot and Beyond) and ironing robot (Jinsung Mecha System), as well as technologies including 3D virtual clothing design platform (Within 24).

The specialized seminars will cater to the latest trends and the needs of the industry. Eight sessions will cover trends in sustainable fabric materials and clean factory (Korea Textile Trade Association), trends in ICT convergence smart products (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology), and Pantone trend colors (IMD). The job fair will provide opportunities for the companies to meet with prospective job candidates, helping to resolve the employment-employment matching issue in the textile fashion industry.

Also, entertaining events are prepared for the visitors, such as upcycling classes that add new values to waste materials, as well as social media events that provide gifts to the visitors.

A KOFOTI official said that PIS is an event that led the growth of the Korean textile and fashion industry through change and innovation, now in its 20th year. He further said, “Just visiting the venue will provide an overview of the latest trends, products, and status of the textile fashion industry, and the organizers made the best effort to attract outstanding companies and buyers for the event.” The official concluded his statement by saying that the event will feature diversity and entertainment, encouraging attention and participation in the event.
